Found this Cain Victorious Debuts card. Sure its graded PSA gem mint 10, but over $100 with a day to go? Goes to show how much value some people put on grading. Looks like it could go for what a non graded /88 gets.

Surely it cant go much higher can it? Just surprised me a little bit.

I thought the price on this to be overboard but hey I have a bunch of these cards and I am sure at least a few if not quite a few would grade out at a 10.

I don't think this card will continue to bring in that kind of $.
Shoot I almost bid on this card before I realized it was a base (figured it had to be #88 with that starting price)

I dont even understand why the graded 88's sell for as much as they do, I have never seen one graded below a 9, and most come back 9.5 and 10's, most people who want one, should just buy it raw, and get it graded themselves.

Thats wishful thinking, most do not come back 9.5's or 10's.

The reason you have never seen one graded below a 9 is because people will NOT submit a card in bad shape to be graded. If you look at PSA population report, 70 Victorious Debuts have been graded, only 41 have graded a 10. Which means 41% of the cards who people thought were 10's did not grade a 10. Thats not counting the cards in bad condition that were never submitted. A lot of Victorious Debuts Golds have bad cuts, bad corners or production dents.

41 out of 70 graded 10 is a huge %, the only reason grading increases the value of a card is because of the rarity of having a perfect card. When more than 50% are graded at a 10, it is not rare. Plus plenty of people get card graded that are not 9's or above, just look at the picture thread, I see 7's, 7.5's. Now get a rd 1  base card graded 10, then it is rare and worth the extra cash. Take vinatge cards for example, the reason hgih grades go for 5 or 6 figures is that fact that there may only be 2 or 3 cards graded about an 8, well what do you think would happen to the prices if all those cards graded at 9 and 10's, they would plummet.

Youre making a lot of assumptions, you had no idea what the numbers were. You said most would grade 10's and I just proved you wrong. I have about 15 VD's that are 8's at best. I say your odds of getting a Victorious Debuts Gold card to grade a 10 is closer to 20%.

what assumptions am I making, you gave me the #'s am I not correct in saying that if there are 71 graded and 40 of them graded a 10, that is not higher than 50% are graded at a 10.

you said 70 cards were graded, 41 came back a 10,So that means I have at least a 50% chance of getting a 10. That is huge percentage in the card collecting world.  that means a 10 would not pull the same premium on a Gold VD, as a 10 on a base card would, because there are probably no rd 1 base or parallels that would grade a 10

and talk about assumptions, YOU are the one who posted the #'s saying 41/70 graded  a 10. but then say your odds  are 20% on getting a VD to grade a 10?

Mr. Knowledgeable One, can you please guide us to where we can get these raw cards you speak of. This sounds like a masterful idea, we can all just grade them ourselves. I'll buy three VD Gold Anderson Silva's and grade them, that would be the best day ever.

Nothing shady going on with that auction.
2 members from this site bid on that card thinking it was numbered to /88 because they didn't look at the listing well enough. ( I almost did the same as well)
After reading this thread and realizing it they both retracted/cancelled their bids.

Nothing shady going on with that old auction . Member owns it . 2 members bid it and then realized it was just a base not a gold VD card . So owner allowed bid cancellation or members retracted the bids .

Carry on , back to the bickering .  LOL

I will say one thing about this card. We all might very well be wishing we had bought this card for $100 in the short future. I can remember some time ago buying a Cain /88 for $50 bucks or so (I believe it was from cockblocks?) and then a short time later he bought it back from me for $75. I thought is he crazy? Now I wish I had kept the card and that is most likely the last time I will have a chance at getting one at that price. This base card graded to 10 might just end up going for a nice chunk of change in the future because the /88 will be untouchable unless you have some major $.
