At what price point would it be worth while to buy a few boxes of round 2 retail? I'm not a fan of retail boxes usually but I have a friend that is trying to get rid of a few. I just wanted to hear some of your opinions.

$30-$40

retail is junk imo.  about $50 or under (with shipping)  would be a good buy. but unless you are getting a steal it's not worth it , except if you just want the thrill of opening some topps ufc and don't want to pay $100 for a hobby box. not to mention you know the retail boxes got all the crap cards. i'm sure 90%of the good ones went to the hobby boxes.

Hello, just my two cents here, but I would not buy for any more than 30 bucks, they do not have the red autos and with only one blue auto per box there is no point. Like Blindside said if you want the rush of busting some packs for cheap then go ahead. You could get a big pull like lesnar or silva, or gsp but the odds are stacked heavily against you with only one auto per box.

You might could buy them cheap as suggested, bust them until you get to the auto, save the rest and sale them on ebay for a couple bucks to make up your upfront cost or maybe even make a dollar. Some people want base cards I guess, or hey you could sale them as ICE COLD packs and the HOTPACK sellers would buy them quick to get them off ebay so it would not mess their scam up. just my 2 cents

You only get 1 auto OR relic per retail box, so chances are you will get a relic, probably 1 or 2 autos per case in retail, but I pulled a Franklin auto, after just buying the remaining packs at my Target, and some one on here pulled a 1/1 base card from retail, so you never know

I've dropped a good chunk of change on retail ufc round 2 since there release. though i haven't got any major pulls(just ruby paralells, ruby photo finish, etc.), i bought them for the fact that they are mma cards. Imagine  if you had the first set of baseball cards ever made.

yeah by why not "waste" a good chunk on hobby boxes and get some great pulls

...and Topps UFC 2009 is not the first mma cards.  It isn't even the first UFC cards.

i know that the ufc isn't the "first"  first set, but  it is the first standalone set, as far as i know. the ring kings are an insert set.

Thanks for the opinions. I went ahead and passed on the retail. The lowest he would go was $45 right now anyway.

Topps UFC Round 1 is the first set for me.  These are not available in "retail."  i.e. not what this thread is about.

My friend bought 3 retail boxes and what I noticed is that he got some good hits, onyx bloodlines Randy couture and an onyx base card of Anderson Silva. I think that most the onyx /88 are in retail boxes. I have seen cases of the hobby boxes opened and not that many onyx/88 but alot of silver /188. I did not see any silver /188 in the retail boxes. But the fact is that you never know, I do agree that if you want better odds than go with the hobby box rather than the retail box.

the /88 base cards are "bronze" and they are retail exclusive

i have a pretty good collection of the "bronze" parallel's, right down to my  charles"mack" lewis card. what are your guy's opinion on these cards being higher value cards, even though they are just at the retail level? would it be worth getting them graded?

the only hit i had out of a retail pack was my vera silver parallel /188. and the card wasnt even in good shape the foil was jacked up.. but buy the retail just to collect the cards.

I have purchased Topps retail products before(baseball card). Never hit anything big but when you get any autograph or good parallel, your ahead of the game.

I knew a guy who once pulled a Gretzky 1/1 GU Auto jersey at a 7-11 of all places. 3 x $3 packs turned into $1500 for him!

I have gotten about 5 or 6 /88 and a Rich Franklin auto, all in 9 retail packs, bought them all the first time I have seen them in target, haven't seen them since, but I only need 11 more autos to complete the whole set, so singles from here on out.

I pulled a diamond 1/1 Yushin Okami out of a retail box. It was missing 2 packs, and you guessed it the auto or relic was gone but still good for $62 bucks

Not to be an MMA snob but it's MASK not mack. Hopefully that was a type but I've noticed that while people on here are extremely knowledgable about cards, not so much on MMA.

Reviving this thread, need to vent:
Why won't retail prices come down??????  $86 plus shipping ($10 = $96) on Blowout, they just had retail boxes of ME on sale for less than $30.  What kills me even more is the hobby boxes for ME and R2 are almost the same price.  What's the deal?
It's just crazy to me that you can't get a reatil box for less than $90 (shipped) and the Hobby boxes are going for $120.
Have reatil boxes ever been listed or sold below $50, which would still seem high but much more reasonable???

Do not f'ng buy UFC 2009 (RD 2) retail. It will be a waste.  Its not like the new "retail" stuff where theres rubys and diamonds a plenty cause topps sucks.

Dont do it.

Just say no.

RD 2 Retail is not worth it. At all.

Off my pedestal now.
